Diversity Role Models: website strategy for a growing charity

A little background

Diversity Role Models (http://www.diversityrolemodels.org/) actively seeks to prevent homophobic and transphobic bullying throughout the UK by taking positive gay, trans and straight role models into schools. Their vision is a world where all children and young people can live, learn, grow and play safely, regardless of issues relating to gender and sexuality.

The project

In searching for a company to help build a website to support this aim, DRM were looking for a web partner with a focus on the charity sector, to help them establish a clear online message, target specific audiences with their services and integrate their already growing social media channels.

As part of our Social Responsibility programme, we have delivered all of the work for free, in recognition of the great work DRM does. Since founding the charity in 2011, they have delivered more than 1300 workshops, in 150 UK schools to over 30,000 young people. 

What we did

  • Helped them to identify a low cost, user-friendly web CMS in Umbraco
  • Designed, developed and supported the site as the charity grew
  • Added in a new e-Learning and forum section to support teacher training
  • Integrated their popular social media channels to encourage traffic to the site
  • Supported their annual “DRM carnival” event
  • Helped with online campaign promotions

On-going support

In 2015, they extended their work further, to deliver a teacher training programme funded by the Government Equalities Office in a partnership with Brook to reach up to 10,000 teachers through e-Learning and specialist classroom training.

In their fifth year, they are also about to launch a report highlighting the findings from and importance of their work in schools – “Embracing Diversity and Ending Bullying”.  It’s a great story and they are making a real difference. We are proud to help them along the way.
